Session 70 - Council of War

Session 70

General Summary

The session focused on the War Council held at the Spire of Eternity in Ahalin. Presided over by Queen Corellin, the council brought together allies from the party's past to establish a defense against the Shadowfell and approve a final mission for the "Shard Bearers" (the party),.

Key NPCs & Interactions

  • Queen Corellin: The leader of the High Elves. She is described as a "beautiful golden woman" who thanked the party for saving the various cities, noting that without their intervention, the Shadowfell would have already won.
  • Big Al (Alfonse Kalazorn): He made a surprise appearance, looking out of place among the elves but warmly greeting the party. He returned from Bhurgarom to fulfill a promise regarding a weapon,.
  • Tura: The Orc student of Magnus. She pledged her sword to protect Ania Aldabra (Lorena's mother) after seeing the alliances form, stating she needed a new person to serve after losing Magnus.
  • Nambil: The ancient elf elder. He reassured Hiraani about the "darkness" inside him, comparing it to Varalla’s original nature, suggesting that having darkness does not guarantee evil if one has a true heart.
  • Grimok & Falcon: The Orc and the Hunter agreed (awkwardly) to work together to protect Lorena's parents.

Agreements Made for the War

The Council established a defensive line while the party executes the offensive mission:

  • The Front Lines:
    • Riverspire: Wood Elves (led by Jaw and Tian) will defend the forests here.
    • The Jorus: Troops from Phandelver, Dwarves, and High Elves will join the Aldabra forces to fight in the open fields.
    • Bhurgarom: A contingent will protect the Dwarven city as it is the rendezvous point for the new device.
  • Aerial Transport: Captain Lee agreed to pilot a High Elf Sky Ship to transport the party to the Wailing Jungle.
  • The Decoy Plan: Saskia and the Elven Druid Guild agreed to shapeshift into Giant Eagles. They will fly alongside the Sky Ship to act as decoys and protection against aerial threats.

Next Steps (The Mission Plan)

  1. Fly to the Wailing Jungle: Take the Sky Ship to the edge of the jungle (the ship cannot enter due to magical interference).
  2. Enter Glimmerfall: Trek through the dangerous jungle to reach Glimmerfall and the Feywild portal.
  3. Fill the Feywild Shard: Find a powerful Fey creature willing to sacrifice themselves or be trapped in the shard to power the device,.
  4. Teleport to Bhurgarom: Use a scroll provided by Falinit to teleport directly to the Dwarven city once the shard is active.
  5. Build the Device: Meet Rab Undergrove and Elven engineers at Bhurgarom to construct the new Ley Line device.
  6. The Frozen North: Travel north to the original site to confront Varalla and activate the machine.

Items Gifted

The party received significant magical upgrades from their allies:

  • Elva’s Rebuke (Spear): Gifted by Big Al. It is the spear that killed Elva, enchanted by Dwarves. It deals extra radiant damage (especially to Shadowfell creatures) and has a "Final Strike" ability to instantly destroy a creature with under 50 HP.
  • Robe of the Archmagi: Gifted to Graa by Queen Corellin. It was formerly worn by Magnus. It grants AC 15+Dex, advantage on magic saves, and +2 to spell attacks/DC.
  • Boots of Temporal Speed: Gifted to Lorena by Queen Corellin. They allow the user to double their speed as a bonus action and ignore opportunity attacks,.
  • Quiver of the Verdant Hunt: Gifted to Hiraani by Queen Corellin. It holds charges for special shots like "Entangling Shot," "Knockdown Shot," and "Stunning Shot" to control the battlefield.
  • Teleportation Scroll: Provided by Falinit to get the party from Glimmerfall to Bhurgarom.

Key Information Shared

  • The "Permanent" Fix: Queen Corellin revealed that the machine Magnus built 3,000 years ago was only a patch. She proposed a dangerous theory: if the party channels their specific Deities (The Keeper, Dragonkin, Aislaine) through the crystals while activating the device, they might snap the Ley Lines back into permanent alignment. However, she warned this could be fatal.
  • Communing Results:
    • Graa successfully communed with The Keeper before the council. He learned there are no traitors at the council, but the Keeper is "unsure" if they can survive the mission without dying,.
  • Lorena's Threat: Lorena successfully intimidated Falcon and Grimok into working together, threatening to "burn their kingdoms down" if they failed to protect her mother.
